About van Hoekelen Greenhouses, Inc.
Largest Bulb Grower On The East Coast Since 1988
van Hoekelen Greenhouses, Inc. (VHG), has been a family owned and operated business since 1988. We grow and sell a variety of seasonal plants and flowers to wholesale customers nationwide, including supercenters, supermarkets, home improvement stores, drug stores, etc. Our products include a variety of bulbs such as Tulips, Hyacinths, and Easter Lilies. Some of our plants include Zygo (Christmas) Cactus, Poinsettias, Mums, Annuals, and Vegetables.
Lori van Hoekelen, owner and CEO of VHG, started her career working at a greenhouse in New Jersey. From there, she opened a greenhouse in Kline Township, PA. The business began at a smaller portion of a greenhouse, occupying 3.5 acres (half) of the 7-acre facility. After a year of being in business, the company occupying the other half of the building had left and the remainder of the greenhouse was then acquired.
Cok van Hoekelen has a lifelong work experience in the greenhouse industry. He lived in Holland, working on a bulb farm with his father and siblings. He earned his degree in Horticulture and pursued his dream of moving to the United States. Cok has contributed his talents to the business; which include floral growing, sales, marketing, production, shipping, and construction.
In 2000, the administration offices were relocated to McAdoo, PA. In 2001, an additional 5.5 acre state-of-the-art greenhouse was built within a mile of the original greenhouse. Since then, another 2 acres of greenhouse has been added to the new facility, along with 40 acres of outdoor growing fields, cooler storage, loading docks, and a fleet maintenance garage. In 2019, IGI Growers in Sorrento, FL, was acquired, adding an additional 5.5 acres under glass. In all, between the three locations, there is now 23 acres under glass.
A second generation of the van Hoekelen family also currently works in the business. Lori Bowser is in Accounts Payable & Purchasing and Alex van Hoekelen works alongside his parents in all aspects of the business. Both children started working in the business at a young age, as General Laborers.
The Freight department manages a fleet of tractor trailers, which hauls VHG’s product and outside freight for backhauls. They also coordinate outside carriers to haul company product during the busy shipping season, and have contributed much of the success to the company.
van Hoekelen Greenhouses, Inc. strives to provide quality products and exceptional service to our customers, jobs to the local area, energy efficient facilities, while abiding by all federal, state, and local laws. We are one of the largest employers located in the Kline Township/McAdoo, PA area, contributing to the local economy and serving the community. We are proud to be a member of the Women Owned Business Organization (WBENC).
